A Return to Self

Being in front of the camera takes practice. It can feel awkward and weird to stare somewhat deeply into the lens of your camera in an attempt to evoke a desired feeling.  Are we aiming for sultry, silly, or pensive?Recently, I decided to get reacquainted with my angles. Did I remember which one best accentuated my cheek bones or my only dimple? It felt like trying on a pair of shoes that you long loved but haven’t worn in quite some time, new and familiar all at once. But it was also a reminder that it won’t be awkward for much longer, at least I hope not!
Honestly, I’m still unpacking 2020 where despite a lot of growth, there was very little creative work getting done, here at least. Most of my time has been dedicated to the scholarship of food which is being shared at Modern African Table. Food, has been where I’ve poured myself creatively but I barely turned the camera on myself because the world was falling apart really and I didn’t feel like it. But still I must ask, where are grooves found? In Jamaica à la Stella? Because truthfully, there’s going to be a lot of experimentation behind the scenes, to find the sweet spot for this new iteration. Although I do miss blogs of yonder times. And yet, I find myself excited to see what I will end up creating.

What the blog is ABOUT.
